The reasons are many and astounding. Just as the ‘old’ quip announced just a few years ago, ‘if you don’t have a website, you don’t exist”, now the new phrase may declare, “be mobile, or be nowhere”.
Many issues, completely new to humanity, are being discussed now – today. Issues like spectrum demand, wireless service taxes, broadband, privacy and more are being discussed – all of which will directly affect how we will live, how our information is shared, and how we are taxed.
Let’s just take a look at recent numbers and events:
5 billion apps were downloaded in 2010 – up from 300 million in 2009. How we differentiate our clients from their competitors has changed once again!
Proliferation – Many minorities are skipping the home desktop computers in favor of smart phones – with up to 83% of all minorities owning a smart phone (75% of non-minorities owning similar devices).
Presidential Buy-in – During his 2011 State of the Union Address, President Obama plans to connect 98% of all Americans to the internet, saying, “it’s about connecting every part of America to the digital age.”
Tablets – Apple announced recently that it sold 7.33 million ipads in the last quarter of 2010. Note, that’s just Apple. Of course, companies like Samsung, Sony, HP have introduced competing products.
Net Neutrality – As more and more information is transmitted, how your information is retained and shared is of growing importance. With the FCC stepping in, with an “Open Internet” decision, no one really knows how all of this will turn out.
Come join us May 7 at Emerge Memphis for the first event in our area discussing “mobile” – the devices, strategies, future developments, carriers, location based services, and applications!
